NYE Fun - The Bivouac Soiree

This year we didn't have any New Year's Eve plans aside from possibly burning a few logs in the fireplace and taking down a bottle of champers or two. This worked out fairly well for us considering on Friday I won a pair of tickets to The Bivouac Soiree at the US Grant Hotel from San Diego Magazine. {YAY ME!}

I've driven past the US Grant many times and marveled at the historic building and posh outside but had never been inside the hotel. After a brief stop over at Skipp's family's annual NYE bash, we headed downtown. I wasn't sure what to wear to the party billed as, "an intimate and upscale alternative to the nightclub scene" so I went with a hot pink lace dress and some very high heels.

Since we were VIP {ooh la la! I love the sound of that!} we got unlimited access to the different spiked punch bowls they offered. My favorite was the Honey Apple Bourbon. Sort of like apple cider...with a kick!

The entertainment was a lovely jazz band and also a DJ that played some classic party hits. It was a really good DJ. One of my favorite parts of the evening was viewing the very long ice block that housed all the bottles for the bar the party.

The US Grant was super fabulous and I'll have to find a reason to return soon-- perhaps a "stay cation" is in short order?

Although it was fun to have exciting plans, it seems the vast majority of my friends and family went the "low key" route this year with quiet evenings at home. I don't know if it's the rough year we all had or the cold weather here in San Diego lately, but this year definitely felt more subdued than New Year's Eves past. I must admit I wouldn't have minded staying home this year-- I'm STILL recovering from our evening out days later!

How did you ring in 2013?

Sounds fun! We just went out and barhopped...but I still wore full sequins and black tights. :)

Looks like a great NYE! We haven't gone out in 20 years on NYE but went to a concert with our girls. So fun.

Sounds like fun! We had lobster, filet and sauted mushrooms. I wasn't feeling good, so we stayed in that night. I was sick in bed all New Year's day too. :(

Happy New Year Muffy!

Looks like you & Skip had a great time.
Every year we celebrate the New Year with our neighbors. It's always a great time. Lots of laughs, good food and memories to share.
